Monster Toys

These wooden monster toys were created for Areaware in Metaproject 03. They are unique and simplified takes on the classic monster toys that most kids grew up with. I wanted to make them heirloom quality, and appeal to both children and adults.

There were many different rounds of sketching and prototyping before pursuing monsters. The loch ness monster was originally thought up as a bath toy, but evolved into a line of monster toys.

The first set of monsters that were created. They were made of leather, copper, walnut and birch, but were later changed to a simpler and more graphic palette of black, white, and ash.

The packaging was based on existing Areaware packaging to match the brand. The graphics were very simple black screen print on raw cardboard.
